Any help would be appreciated. I have no problem finding words in files using excel and word. I found the answer. Sorry I never said search through .csv files with windows desktop search. Click Start, and then click Search (or point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders). Click Change preferences, and then click With Indexing Service (for faster local searches). Click Change Indexing Service Settings (Advanced). Note that you do not have to turn on the Index service. On the toolbar, click Show/Hide Console Tree. In the left pane, right-click Indexing Service on Local Machine, and then click Properties. On the Generation tab, click to select the Index files with unknown extensions check box, and then click OK. Close the Indexing Service console. The answer I was looking for is under method 2 on this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173

Windows Desktop Search can't find anything.? It says that it is indexed, but no searches yield anything. So. I went into "Help" and it gave me this advice. "In the notification area of the Windows taskbar, right-click the indexing icon ". So, I open up the search window (from the start menu) and look on the Windows taskbar and can't find anything at all that looks like an icon that I can right click on. Maybe I don't know which is the actual task bar. But, there is nothing to be seen on the window anywhere. Any help will be appreciated. Click Index Now.
Why am I having problem running Google ‘Desktop’ on Windows XP pro platform. Search box ‘freezes’?? I am running Windows XP pro and have used “Google Desktop” without any problems until recently. Now, when I start to type in the ‘google search box’ on the task bar it ‘freezes’ and causes cursor to become unresponsive to in the task bar and eventually unresponsive to all open programs. This phenomenon seems to correspond to installing a windows security patch a few weeks ago. Also, I am suspicious that MS might be sabotaging Google because the timing of this problem corresponds to MS’s big introduction of its new desktop search tool. Windows ‘Live’. Is anyone else having this same trouble running the Google desktop search tool?

is google desktop search any good and does it pose a security risk to my computer? Hi there, I have Windows Vista Premium on my computer system as my OS, which has an integrated Windows Search feature, which i tend to use a lot. However, a friend of mine told me about Google Desktop Search, and she said that it is better than the integrated search in Windows Vista. So I was wondering if someone could tell me which is better and what they would recommend Windows Vista Integrated Search Feature, or Google Desktop Search Also, if I download Good Desktop Search would that mean that I would be putting my computer at risk of been hacked or contracting a virus or something like that. Really I was just wanting to know if the Google Desktop Search feature is any good at all or if my friend was just saying that because she uses it and if it poses a security risk to my computer Hope someone can help me out and answer my query Thanks so much in advance to anyone who does answer this with an intelligent answer Jay OK just in case anyone read my question wrong, I dont mean the "Google Search Engine" I mean the "Google DESKTOP Search PROGRAM"

Please help me solve the mystery of the disappearance of a file from my windows desktop? I always had a folder with sub folders inside categorizing some pics. Yesterday, I noticed the folder was not in my desktop. I had just used the folder last week. I searched manually first for hours, and could not find the folder. Then used Windows file Search option and could not find either the folder or the pictures inside the folder. I ALSO SEARCHED FOR *jpg AND LOOKED MANUALLY THROUGH HUNDREDS OF PICS, AND NONE OF THE PICS THAT WHERE IN MY FOLDER APPEARED IN THE SEARCH RESULTS. I ALSO USED GOOGLE DESKTOP TO HAVE GOOGLE INDEX MY COMPUTER AND THEN SEARCHED FOR THE FOLDER AND THE PICS AND THE RESULT WAS ALSO NEGATIVE. Then I used "Undelete PLUS" to see if someone, or a virus deleted my folder and no, the software told me the file was not deleted from my computer....BUT APPARENTLY, IT´S NOT IN MY COMPUER EITHER! I NEVER MOVED THE FOLDER ANYWHERE; IT WAS ALWAYS IN MY DESKTOP, AND YESTERDAY; IT DISAPPEARED... SO...WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED? WHERE CAN THE FOLDER BE? THANK YOU YES I LOOKED IN THE RECYCLE BIN AND ACCORDING TO MY ANTI- VIRUS PROGRAM MY PC HAS NO VIRUS THAT COULD OF DELETED IT.
How do you make folders open normally in Windows XP instead of ending up in a Search Window? Whenever I open up folders in Windows XP, I get a window, but instead of displaying the folder's contents, I only see "To start your search, follow the instructions in the left pane." In the left pane are search options that you usually encounter when clicking Start -> Search. When I right click the folder on the desktop, "Search" is bolded (as a default setting, I guess) instead of the usual "Open" or even "Explore." When clicking on these through the right click menu, the folder's contents appear normally, however, I need an easier way to access them. Is there a way I can revert it to an original setting somehow, where I can easily access a folder's contents by simply double clicking it. Thanks in advance. Thank you, rk - it worked!
