Where can I download a free animated (moving) desktop background for Windows 7 that won't bog down my computer? I heard Windows 7 no longer supports animated desktop wallpaper, but is there a way to bypass this without too much hassle? If I don't like it, are the changes reversible (i.e. can i delete the moving wallpaper and go back to one that is stationary)? Would you recommend I do a system restore before downloading? Thanks for any advice. I have a Toshiba laptop if that's important. Thanks again. Do you also know of any reputable sites to download free screensavers, preferably aquariums?

*Desktop Wallpaper* Does anyone know of a free site where you can crop the wallpaper there to fit your screen? I found a site like this before, but I just can't seem to find it again! I have an abnormally shaped screen -- 1366x768 -- so it has been quite difficult for me to find a site with a decent selection of wallpaper that fits my computer. I realize I can change the size of my screen so that it doesn't stretch smaller images if I wanted to use them, but I just think it looks ugly with those big black vertical bars on each side of the screen. Thanks all for your help! -VVV

is there a hack to change desktop wallpaper in Windows 7 starter? I know I know, people won't pay for windows so they have to make the free version as non-functional as possible... I was considering buying a netbook, but I really like to choose my own desktop pic so does anyone know a way around it? Its basically the only problem I have with 7 starter- i'm no power user... but its a little offensive to be told I can't have a basic computer fuction that has been standard equip for over a decade on all computers...
COMPUTER PROFESSIONALS!!! Multiple-Monitor (3 - 19" LCD's) desktop wallpaper help!? I have a 3 monitor set up and would like to have one wallpaper stretch across the three screens. I have a wallpaper that is compatible with this (4800x1800) and should work nicely. Problem is, when i set the image as my background, it shows the same image on each monitor, instead of the one image stretched across all three. I have found a tool online called Ultramon that will do what I am looking to do, however, this program costs money and I am looking for a free solution to this. If you have any advice or help, please let me know. Thank you! My screens are not cloned...obviously. My middle screen is my main, start menu, desktop icons...etc. My left and right screens are my extended desktop screens.
Is there a free anti virus website I can scan my computer, that doesn't require downloading the software? I just got a bad virus from something that changed my desktop wallpaper and not allowing me to remove it. Another virus I have is every few minutes a bunch of stuff pop up on my screen and start running something on a black box screen with a blinking cursor. My computer is going to the toilet and I need to save it. Please help! Thanks for the tips...I've been trying to do housecall all afternoon - a lot of it the viruses it picked up has a message saying transfering more information but it's been idle like that for a long time now. Others it says it can't remove but if I click it will tell me how I can remove it myself but I don't know...and now it's just in idle mode and no longer working so maybe I'll try another program too...it captured TONS AND TONS of spyware, trojans and other junk...

PLEASE need help with my computer.. pls pls pls help me :/? I have a pc runs on Windows XP. About a week ago it started to become really slow (i have formatted it about 3 months ago and has quite a lot of free space) and i did an antivirus check and everything. Suddenly when I started the computer and logge on the usual 'User' account .. I always log onto this one since i have only this one account.. all icons on my desktop have disappered except for Nero Express, Avira antivirus, and my scanner program. Also on start up avira shows a pop up and says that I am running on administer rights. My desktop settings have all gone back to factory settings with the default desktop wallpaper. Besides the computer has become really fast and the only way I can access my files and old desktop icons etc is by going to C:\Documents and Settings\ User I just want it to go back to normal please help Ok the system restore worked out... now I hope it doesn't do the same thing again .. I'll have to call a technition or someone. Thanks to everyone =). Howecver I don't think that it is because the pc is not 'maintanined' right because i frequently do defragmenting and system scans and there are frequent automatic updates... but the pc is still so slow :/ I think it is more because it is quite old - it has been about 7 years since i bought it Ok the system restore worked out... now I hope it doesn't do the same thing again .. Can desktop wallpaper slow down the loading? When I load my side of the computer, it is really slow to come up. My bf's side on the other hand is quite quick! Can desktop wallpaper that others have created or whatnot, slow down loading time? I have to add that we don't have a lot of programs on the computer and lots of free space and all that. I clean the computer up all the time too. I read that a screensaver can make a computer a little sluggish....same with desktop wallpaper? Yes, I do have many anti-spyware etc programs and run them almost daily. I am very good about doing all of that.

Is it ok for me to leave my computer monitor on when not in use with an animated wallpaper running? I ask b/c I have downloaded several of those free animated wallpapers from Freeze.com and would rather leave my monitor on when not in use so that I can enjoy the cool moving wallpapers but I am not sure if this lessens the life/performance of the monitor/computer system or not. I know it uses more power and CPU, but other than that, will it cause any harm in the long (short) run? PS--I also just bought a brand new Samsung 23" desktop monitor, which is what I downloaded the wallpapers to, so just don't wanna cause any problems with it.
Is this website safe? I want to download wallpapers for my computer desktop, and wanted to know if this is "virus free"?? http://wallpapers.smileycentral.com/download/index.jhtml?&spu=true&partner=ZRxdm103&acid=3345086039&mtid=1&theme=paper2 Thank you:)

How do you make desktop backgrounds? I don't have a certain program to make anything like this. Is there any way I could do it for free? I have Windows XP, and I don't have the latest version of Microsoft. Also, if I could to this to make cellphone wallpapers, too, I'd be a happy camper. (Red Dodo gets on my nerves!) Please help me become a computer nerd! T.T
My computer has a virus, what should I do? When I start my computer, the background is all black instead of my desktop wallpaper. And the shortcuts I have won't show unless I click on the Show Desktop option. For some reason, every time I turn my computer on, even after I delete it from my computer, this thing called "Security Tool" starts up and says that I need to activate it to remove the viruses. I already have a virus protection program, but I only had the free trial and the trial's run out. I don't have the money to pay for it right now. Is there any way I can get rid of this virus? Or trojan, spyware, whatever it is.
No taskbar no icons no right click on the desktop just the wallpaper? WTF? Yeah that's what happened and it just sucks!!!It's the second time I get this crap. I know it's explorer.exe's fault coz when I try to open it in task manager it just won't show up it says "explorer.exe not found". You know, before trying to answer my question, I have to tell you that I'm not a noob at all in computer matters. I'll start by telling you what I did before getting this error. 1. Opened up Mozilla. Everything was fine working well browsing websites viewing forums etc. I went to see a review about Norton's Internet Security on their forums. While viewing I thought of scanning my computer with Avira Free Antivir 2. Opened up Luke Filewalker(wtf yea I know the name sucks but at least it's a good scanner ;) ) 3. Got a detection from Avira: Worm:Adan or something I forgot the second word from one of the running processes svchost.exe( at first I thought this was the cause) 4. Deleted the detection(without noticing that the process was already running) 5.Tried to close Firefox but it just failed to close and wasn't responding. 6.So I did a restart 7.Guess what? 9.You didn't notice there's no point 8 :P 10. Back to business...After rebooting, the wallpaper was the only one to show up. The desktop icons and the taskbar disappeared. Also I couldn't right click. This is what I did after: 11. Stayed cool ( and I'm proud of me for doing that) 12. Searched Google (GOOGLE, MY BEST FRIEND!!!) for methods to solve this problem and I found a lot of noobs that would have the same problem. I called them noobs because they didn't even try to open up explorer.exe before asking :P. 13. Found some methods but none satisfied me. 14. I think the core files r damaged...-.- 15. So I came across Yahoo Answers... 16. So I thought I shouldn't miss the opportunity to ask you gays(oops sorry I meant GUYS) (XD) what to do. 17. HEEEELP. P.S.: I tried that command in New Task in Task Manager I can't remember it's name now >.< but it was something like a system restore, scanning for system errors. It found about 2 errors and it asked me for the installation CD of Windows but I can't find it coz when I moved in the new house the Windows was already installed on the computer and the CD seemed useless so we didn't pay much attention for it when we moved. I can't just reinstall the new windows coz I can't get over reinstalling all of the programs and games( I'm so darn attached to them >.<). Is there a way of solving this problem without losing any of my files? PPL!!!BEFORE ANSWERING READ EVERYTHING AND YOU'LL NOTICE THAT RECOMMENDING ME TO OPEN EXPLORER.EXE WOULD BE USELESS!!
Please, please, PLEASE helpp? Computer Virus infection! I know it's a long description, but I really need help? Please help me, this just happened recently. I was just downloading some custom Sims stuff and then i started playing it, and then all of a sudden, a blue screen with all this technical writing came up, saying I needed to shut the computer down. So I did, and when the laptop was ready to use, my desktop wallpaper suddenly changed by itself to a black screen with a red and white font colored message saying: "WARNING! Your're in danger!..." and at the end of the message, it says "Secure yourself right now! Remove all spyware from your PC!" I noticed that the "Your're" is spelled wrong, so I'm thinking this is a scam. (And my desktop icons are still there) Now I can't open Safari, (I'm using Internet Explorer and the popups to get the spyware keeps coming up.), Sims, nothing except Internet Explorer. Also, a bubble from my toolbar keeps saying "Windows has detected spyware infection!" But I don't want to throw away my money with something I can't trust. I just downloaded a free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.37 trial, but it won't open after it's done downloading! Please suggest some stuff I can do to fix this! I have a Windows XP. Thank you!
Slow Computer - No spyware or un-needed programs? My computer has fairly recently been formatted. Im using minimal space (something like 220 of 233 gigs are free). Ran spybot, and ccleaner in safe mode, cleaned the registry in safe mode. no spyware popped up except for 1 false positive. the computer takes up to 4 minutes (about) to fully boot. after the win XP welcome screen, it just sits with the desktop wallpaper for about 2 minutes, seemingly doing nothing. eventually it starts up and i can use it, but its soooooooo slow. things such as 'bowling buddies' on facebook lag SO bad, i cant even use things like that. any way to speed this thing up without formatting it again? i run the ccleaner at least once every 3 days, if not more. I defrag about once every 2 days, so it is definately not cluttered in the slightest. anyone have any ideas? Need to add that I only have 3 things starting up. AVG antivirus, mouse software, and hkcmd. all needed things. i have used malwarebytes very recently, about 5 days ago, but now it wanted me to pay for it so i cant use it again. Ive tried using no desktop background with no difference, so i put it back. my system has Intel celeron CPU 2.40GHz and 2.39GHz, 512 MB of ram. I know thats not very much ram, but this same system used to be faster. it seems that something wants to start but cant, so it times out, but i cant find what it is for the life of me. anyone have any ideas of checking the startup stuff in more detail? anything in services.msc that i can turn off or on to help? thanks!
Computer viruses, help? In the past hour i've gotten so many viruses on my computer i can't even count them. First there was about 4 trojans blocked by mcafee, then a fake warning popup box, which will not go away. It keeps coming back. Another virus changed my desktop wallpaper to another fake warning, and consistent popup warnings and downloads are happening that are obviously infected with viruses. They come up every minute or so for the past hour. The strange thing is, i haven't actually been on the internet at all today, up until now. Currently doing a virus scan with ad-aware, but last time it didn't remove all viruses. What do i do? Is there any better free antivirus programs i could use that actually let you remove the virus without having to pay?

my computer's windows only gives me limited use. I used to have full use. Why..? Somebody bought the computer I'm on from an important company. At first it worked great, but one day, after apparently downloading 'updates' for my computer, something happened. When I would turn it on, a banner of varying opacity would sit on the bottom right of my screen. It says, in paraphrase: "We charge you with not paying for this version of Windows; therefore you only have limited use of this copy of windows.." When the desktop loads, the banner is always there. On startup, it forces a box asking whether to resolve now or later. When the desktop loads, again, I am prohibited from customizing my desktop like wallpaper. It defaults my desktop to a black blank screen. When I have a window open, generally a browser, another label like think pops up every 5 minutes. I am annoyed at this but Why should I have to pay? I am not the one who installed this copy of Windows. And I can't ask the former owner because they won't help me. Any suggestions? I already know I can click some buttons to resolve this, I just don't well not just paying, but the additional software when I only have 1.3G of space free on my harddrive. It must be the previous owner didn't type their serial number into it correctly or something. That's what I believe but I don't know i wasn't there. I have had it for 2 to 3 years. It is Windows XP. I forgot to add that in addition to the black screen, the icons are all on the desktop, no issues with the icons. again it act ed like normal until about a month ago. Also I really don't know whether the previous owner paid the fees or not. I would believe they tried to get out of paying for windows. but I wasn't with him when he got the computer. No it is NOT a trojan/virus/worm/forgery/false etc in any way. It is the real thing. It gives me several links and buttons to press and the browser works in full and total. As i said I paraphrased the error message (which I now believe to me error #8.) to get past the filters on this website. the error on emblems says exactly "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation. So I clicked the links and followed instructions and it scanned my computer and asked me to save the information to my clipboard and paste it back. The screens say I will be getting an email from Microsoft. I don't care. I want to have a phone call with Microsoft but I was offered to pay $150 to fix the problem but I ain't gonna. I want to talk to them. Not get an email but they will send me an email. Thank you all. I will eventually pick a best answer. I just want you to read this detail.
How do I change the desktop background in Windows 7 Starter? With any previous pre-installed version of Windows, I have been able to change the desktop background (wallpaper). This does not seem possible with Windows 7 Starter. Do I really have to buy the full version of Windows 7 just to change the picture? Is there an add-on I can use? Or can I change to an earlier version of Windows - legally and preferably for free? I don't like Windows 7 as much as previous versions. I have had XP on my old computer. I also don't like the mediaplayer 12 very much.
Better Site Traffic? 10 Points for Best Answer!? I've created a website for making computer graphics; avatars, banners, desktop wallpapers, etc. I've got a few members but not many and site traffic is pretty slow. It's a free website and if you join you are able to learn to make graphics, post them to show others, share brushes and techniques, and request graphics from others. Any ideas on how I can get more people to come? I've already: 1. Submitted my site url to google and other search engines. 2. Told friends about it. And I don't have a myspace or any other sort of blog. Also if you'd like to join that'd be awesome. =) Best idea for how to get more users or if someone tells a bunch of people or something and brings in lots of users gets 10 points! Thank you very much! ♥ Site url: http://www.graphics.niceboard.net

What is an easy way to make a photo collage? I have a lot of small pictures that i would like to put together to make one large custom collage to use as wallpaper on my desktop. I don't have Photoshop or anything like that. I have only Microsoft Paint and Irfanview, and I don't want to buy any new software, but if you could suggest any software I could download for free that can help me do this, or a way to do it with one of my existing programs, I would really appreciate it. And btw, I am really computer illiterate, so if you could give me as many details as possible, that would be excellent. Thanks!
Microsoft Privacy Center Taking over my Computer after boot up! Please Help? Hello everyone. For all you computer nerds out there. When I boot up my computer, it does it fine, until I log in and then this Mircosoft Privacy Center comes up and everything on my desktop disappears, Even the start menu along with the tool bar at the bottom. What the hell is going on? My computer gives me a message saying to go into the uninstall programs list and take it off my hdd. But I cant get to it because there is no start menu. I tried everything, the hot keys for "Open My Computer" or anything does not respond! No hotkeys work!!! Can someone help me with a computer problem? I will award the highest points that I am able to award.? Ok, this is for the people who really know what they are doing on the computer and about registry's on a computer. I went on this site that offers different things about he computer and how to fix them. My problem is that my desktop picture went away. I am not able to change my desktop background. Do you know how you usually right click, them properties, then the desktop tab, then you choose your background? Well I cant do that. The site tells me to do the following: Click Start Click Run Type: regedit Navigate to the following registry entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System "Wallpaper"=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html (yours might be slightly different) Click one time on the entry Push Delete on the keyboard Click Yes Close the Registry editor I did all that, but I am still stuck and my problem is still not fixed. I deleted the two things in my registry under the SYSTEM tab that said "NoDispBackgroundPage" and "NoDispScrSavPage." That did not fix my problem. When I right click on my desktop and click properties then the desktop tab, the part that lets you choose the pictures for your background is still gray and un-clickable. I am not even able to browse for a picture to use as the background. I scanned my computer with SpyBot - S/D, and Malwarebytes' Antimalware and deleted all the infected material. And I should state that in my list of backgrounds there are a couple of webpages and I don't understand what that is. Is there any way that I can get my desktop choices back? The only thing that I have left in the SYSTEM registry is a thing that says "Default" and the type is "REG_SZ", which I do not understand what that means. Am I supposed to delete that also or just leave it? And since I deleted the parts that say "NoDispBackgroundPage" and "NoDispScrSavPage", will that mess up my computer? There is one more problem that I have. Do you know how on the taskbar there is the clock in the lower right hand corner and you have those little "quick icons" as I call them? I do not know their full terminology, they maybe notifications. But anyway, there is an icon there that is red and has a white "X" on it. Now when I click on the "X" (right click that is) to try and close it out, it takes me to a website called Real Antivirus and it says to download a free try to clean your computer of viruses, but I have Norton and a couple of other virus protections, so I did not download that. But how do I get rid of that? Can somebody please help? I would appreciate it very much. I know that this is a lot, and I will award the highest points that I am allowed to give for answering this question for me. Again, I would like someone who knows their computers and computer registry's to answer this question as to not mess up my computer because it cost me a lot of money and I cant afford for it to be messed up and have to get a new one. And, again I would appreciate your help. totsy, thank you for a calling me a dummy, aparently you didnt read the beginning part of it, so one of us is the dummy here and it is not me. and i'm 19. phlebob, thank you very much for your help, i'm trying that out right now. adam, i have the malwarebytes installed already and i scaned my computer 5 times so far and every time new viruses or adware or spyware show up. i tried everything to remove it. i also tried to restore it to a previous point but it wont let me go back, i was able to change the restore point before but now i cant go back before todays date.

I've just scanned my laptop for spyware and viruses after I had a blue wallpaper on my desktop that says "Warning, spyware has been detected on your computer". It doesn't allow me to change the desktop and when i leave it on it restarts by itself and takes me to another blue screen. I've found a lot of cookies and 2 harmful spyware viruses after the scanning was done. and when i try deleting it it won't work, i clicked remove selected infection and remove inhealed infection and it still won't work. The two Spyware was moved to the Virus Vault and I just press delete, is that the right thing to do ? I still can't change the wallpaper?

NOT-A-COMPUTER-WHIZ AT ALL BUT...Love to Tweak and personalize...want to learn more...? I am always discovering new stuff about my computers...so would love to read the things other people have discovered about their computers...how they tweak and personalize things, etc. I would love to learn more ways to "get to know" my computer other than the basic wallpaper, font style and themes/colors, etc. I have Windows XP on my desktop and Vista on my Laptop and I use Mozilla but do not use an email program (just access email online). Maybe there are some great little free programs I could download to have fun with? Thanks for sharing!
Unable to Connect / The Page Cannot Be Displayed Can't connect to trendmicro site or synmantec? I recently had a computer spyware removed on my laptop. Windows Antivirus 2008. It was pain to get it out of computer and change back my wallpaper. TOday, i had another run with a different spyware that changed my desktop wallpaper that claimed that i needed to install it's antivirus program. The 2nd spyware was kinda different from the first, it didn't have folder in C:\program files. It had a file in system 32 under the name something like lphc3b3e0p0.exe and .src. I deleted it. BUt the big problem now is that I cannot connect to symantec.com or trendmicro.com. I can connect to those websites from other home computers but not this laptop. I could tell that the URL is loading, and it's almost as something forces the browser to display Unable to connect. I had planned on using Trend Micro's Free Online Antivirus Scan, but cannot as every time i click on a trendmicrolink (of any kind, support, store, etc) the browser come out to unable to connect (i'm using firefox). I tried connecting to Trendmicro from Internet Explorer, but same results - The Page Cannot Be Displayed. I am however able to visit other websites (such as this one), and I can ping www.trendmicro.com and www.synmantec.com from my CMD window. I tried run>cmd> Ipconfig /release and /flush and renew. But I still can't connect to the trendmicro or synmantec sites. Definitely, something is either monitoring my web browsing, or something has been purposefully set so that i can't get help from antivirus providers. Someone please help
Is your computer too slow?Read on...? Top Ten Tips To Improve System Speed 1.Let your PC boot up completely before opening any applications. 2.Refresh the desktop after closing any application. This will remove any unused files from the RAM. 3.Do not set very large file size images as your wallpaper. Do not keep a wallpaper at all if your PC is low on RAM (less than 64 MB). 4.Do not clutter your Desktop with a lot of shortcuts. Each shortcut on the desktop uses up to 500 bytes of RAM 5.Empty the recycle bin regularly. The files are not really deleted from your hard drive until you empty the recycle bin. 6.Delete the temporary internet files regularly. 7.Defragment your hard drive once every two months. This will free up a lot of space on your hard drive and rearrange the files so that your applications run faster. 8.Always make two partitions in your hard drive. Install all large Softwares (like PSP, Photoshop, 3DS Max etc) in the second partition. Windows uses all the available empty space in C drive as virtual memory when your Computer RAM is full. Keep the C Drive as empty as possible. 9.When installing new Softwares disable the option of having a tray icon. The tray icons use up available RAM, and also slow down the booting of your PC. Also disable the option of starting the application automatically when the PC boots. You can disable these options later on also from the Tools or preferences menu in your application. 10. Protect your PC from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and slow down thereby gradually heating your CPU and affecting the processing speed. Use compressed air to blow out any dust from the CPU. Never use vacuum. RAM IS THE WORKING AREA (DESKTOP) OF THE CPU, KEEP IT AS EMPTY AND UNCLUTTERED AS POSSIBLE!

Question about spyware, viruses and pop-ups?? Ok so my computer's desktop changed from my wallpaper to a blue sceen that says "Warning spyware has been detected on your PC" and a link is on the desktop. It goes here: http://windows-privacy-protection.com/?aid=444.471. And every few minutes a random pop-ups come up and I can't close them. When I try it just makes a sound and does nothing. Also when I try to open my Task Manager, it says "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator" I'm the only user on this computer aren't I the administratior? What can I do to solves these problems? Is there a free Anti-Virus type program I can download? I can't afford to buy a new one, but is there a good free anti-virus? And if that's not the problem, what else can I do? Thanks so much to anyone who answers and helps.
i need to get rid of spyware/adware? i got a lot of spyware like three days ago i dont know how i didnt download anything or go to any websites out of the ordinary. Now my computer is running slow, i cant use task manager, my desktop wallpaper is blue with a warning sign, sometimes my computer completely freezes, there are warnings that there is "spyware on my computer" that pop up im not sure which ones are caused by malware or other things and which ones are real. ive tried already tried out spybot SD and other free programs. Are there any programs that work that i dont have to pay to get? or just some way to get rid of these without doing a system recovery.
Virus with bugs crawling on screen? A few days ago my computer got this virus that makes black bugs crawl across the screen and "eat" parts of the screen. The background was blue with a box in the middle that said "Warning!! Spyware detected on computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover!" The screensaver in the Display options said "blackster" and the desktop wallpaper said "ctfmonb." I tried to change the screensaver but it keeps going back to that one. I was able to change the wallpaper, and the thing that said "ctfmonb" is gone now. I ran AVG Free but can't remove the virus. Help please!
Antivirus XP 2008 Problem.? I recently got Antivrus XP 2008 onto my computer, I used ctrl+alt+del and went to the "Processes" tab and stopped it, I then searched for "rhcvc" which was part of the file name that it ran under. After deleting that I then did a Malwarebytes "Quick Scan" and deleted what it found, now I'm doing a full scan right now. The whole Quick Scanning and the ctrlaltdel trick, combined with deleting the files should have killed it according to the guide that I used. But I'm still having a few problems. These include: *Megavideo videos don't load, Youtube videos also dont load properly all the time *Loading speed for searches and stuff is extremely slow *I still have the Antivirus XP screensaver and Desktop wallpaper *When I finally do search and find something (I use firefox) when I go to click the link for one of the search results, instead of going to thepage it opens up some wierd search engine in a new tab. Does anyone know how to get rid of this for good? I don't want to loose another computer and I cant buy a new one...I know my antivirus is expired and it dosn't work like it should, I can't find any free antiviruses so..I can't fix the problem that way. New details: My computer seems to freeze after a certain period of time and also downloads dont work when I try to use them, I get some random error iether saying they cant find somethingorother or something about Win32?(This error happened for jr's first download suggestion) I never got to download the others because the computer froz up again.
