help with windows xp desktop theme? i downloaded desktop themes and they are in .desktop format but xp looks for .theme format so i dont know how to set them up. does anyone know where i can get info on that? if not then please let me know of good sites where i can download xp themes thankssssss

How do I restore my original Windows XP Theme? I downloaded a patch to remove the file that doesn't allow your computer to download 3rd Party themes (toolbar, wallpaper, start menu, etc. changes) but once it was complete it took away my Windows XP theme. I'm currently using the Classic theme. When I right click on the desktop and go to 'Properties' it takes me to the Display Properties. When I scroll through the list my 'Windows XP' option is gone. But when I go to the main file (C: WINDOWS/Resources/Theme) there are 3 files there. One is Windows Classic, the other 2 are called Luna. One of them is a folder while the other one is a Windows Theme File. Luna doesn't function properly, which I am assuming controls the functions for XP. I Would dearly like to have my original settings back and I'm asking if anyone knows how to do this without drastic measures.

Windows XP Themes-How to apply them? Okay, I have a Windows XP and it's a Dell. (I don't know if the Dell part matters, it's just an FYI sort of thing.) But, you know how you right click on your desktop, go to appearance, and you can either have Windows Classic or Windows XP? I click on Windows XP, and there are only 3 color schemes: Blue, Green, and Silver. I got bored of all 3 of those, so I searched on google and found a site where you can download new ones. But what happens is, a folder appears on my desktop, I unzip the files, and I have no idea where to go from there. It's installed, but I can't apply it. And when I right click on my desktop again, and go to Themes, the title I downloaded is in there but then it says it's not valid; not only that but what it's supposed to look like isn't working. I'm usually good with computers but I've never tried this stuff before, and I've asked my family but they don't know either. Any ideas?

Virus deleted my desktop background and the ability to change it? I just had a virus on my computer but I got rid of it completely and have symantec virus protetion. The virus changed my desktop background to one that says the computer was infected, but afterwards I changed it to the windows xp theme which is just light blue. Does uninstalling Windows XP SP3 remove your desktop files? I have a fairly new laptop that originally came pre installed with XP SP3, and is now dual booting with Linux Mint. Thing is, I need to downgrade to SP2, and I use Windows as my main OS, I have two different profiles on there with many files of folders all neatly organized on my desktop and in my saved documents. Now, I don't really care if my saved settings are forgotten or my backgrounds and themes and such, but my worries are that my program files will be removed. I guess I could deal with it if the folders on my desktop are gone, but not if they aren't still saved somewhere, because for convenience, I usually just save everything in certain folders straight onto my desktop (ex: "MyDownloads", "MyMusic", "Games", "Pictures"), nothing really goes into "My Documents" or "Downloads". So anyway, Windows won't let me install SP2 first, because it says my operating system is too high for it, and I can't find SP3 in Add/Remove Programs, so I can't just uninstall it from there, and I can't tell if SP1 and 2 are already there, and if they are, I wanna see them to make sure. I know when you upgrade from one service pack to another, you simply have to restart your comp, but it keeps your profiles and desktops intact, but I wanna know if it works the other way around, since you'll actually be uninstalling something, and since my laptop was preinstalled with SP3, I'm wondering if it'll just completely remove the windows partition until I reinstall SP2 from my Linux partition. And if so, will it boot with my old profile and desktop settings after I do so? I figured out how to uninstall SP3 from the command prompt, but I don't wanna do so to find out that windows won't boot into SP2 automatically after that. Yeah, okay, but microsoft also has a seperate security update download, too right? My reasons being is that I wanna set XP to a Mac Leopard theme, but I need SP2 to change it to allow me to use unsigned .theme or .msstyles (yeah I don't want any lecture on how "windows blocks other themes for a reason")

On my desktop I set the theme to Space - It has an awesome background, the mouse is a little space ship and the recyle bin is a crecent moon that changes into a full moon when you need to empty the bin. how do you edit a .theme file for windows xp? I've downloaded themes extracted them and they have a .theme file and some of them work and some don't how do i edit the .theme file to see where it is looking for the files so i can put them in the right folder or edit it to look in the right folder to allow the theme to work because i apply the theme and it says it cant find stuff so how do i edit it to see where it is looking for the files because i have them in the plus themes i have them in the resources themes I've made folders with the name of the theme in those folders and put all the files except the .theme file ive put all files including the .theme file I've done it all how do i look at how the theme was made to know where to put the files so that it can find it because some themes have all the files in the same folder as the .theme file and some themes have the files in a folder in the the folder the .theme file is on. i know desktop architect can edit themes but read its not fully compatible with windows xp what are some windows xp programs to look at where the theme is looking for the files so i know what folder to put them in. and desktop architect is a theme manager i don't want that junk i just want to edit the theme i don't want managers installed that will manage my themes i already have plus and i like it just fine i don't want windows blinds it slows down my pc to the point where it is unusable i just want to see where the theme is looking for the icons and sounds and background and stuff so that i may use the theme with windows xp or do i have the files in the right folder but the theme just doesn't work if i could see where its looking for the files then i would know

Can I get Vista's desktop clock and performance gauges for WIndows XP? http://www.stardock.com/products/desktopx/dx35/img31.jpg Note the clock, performance meter and other stuff on the right hand side of the desktop...I was wondering if it is available for download for windows XP as well. I prefer XP to Vista but I really want to get that addition; it looks good and is useful. I have seem some vista themes which include some vista programs as well, but the clock/weather/performance monitor application wasnt one of them.. I tried "rainmeter" and "desktop sidebar" but they're ugly. The main focus for me is the performance meter, but desktop sidebar's performanc meter are just tiny squares that are not very useful to me.

Uxtheme.dll patcher ruined my desktop themes (!SP3?)? i had stylexp and since i have windows SP3, it would not work and i read somewhere to download uxtheme patcher and uxtheme.dll file but i didnt have the disk (?!) and so the computer theme just randomly turned to classic and it says something like "wisp" color scheme in the appearance tab of Properties and now i can't change it because it says the media center energy blue and the windows xp theme files could not be found! System got problem after dowloaded the "vista theme for XP"? i have downloaded one theme for my laptop(windows XP), it was a "vista theme for xp", dat was a winrar file n i have saved in E-drive and opened. It was showing in "themes" in properties at desktop, but not working ie, desktop background become white, thats all. And i felt system got slow den i changed the theme to old one. But my system getting stuck, not able Shut down and loggin properly. I am using NOD32 one month free version antivirus, If i start the system it shows virus protection out dated, if i restart the sytem(even if it takes time) it will be fixed, and works properly. It repetes when i start the system. Please hell me to fix this problem.
