  1. boot the machine into safe mode and try running your removal tool from there..
  2. boot in safe mode, run your AV software, clean out all your temp directories, run the free scan at pandasoftware.com
  3. You should get control if you enter safe mode and then search and destroy it also try looking through the "c"drive for it and delete the string
  4. Sorry that this is not an answer, but the other responders do not understand that the virus has even taken over safe mode and you can not get to any system functions in a normal fashon. Further symptoms are you can stop the running application that is showing up as the virus, but the system just leaves you with a blank screen, no background, no icons, no taskbar. Someone, Please help! NEW DATA I found a way to get past the privacy center screen and get the desktop running: 1. boot up in normal mode. 2. when privacy center screen is up and running, use ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager. 3. Go to applications, select privacy center, and stop the application. 4. a pop up will come up and say Unauthorized. Just click back on task manager to get a pop-up that says program not responding, do you want to continue. Say yes to stop privacy center. 5. If you do not have a desk top, go the task manager new task button and click. Enter explorer.exe in the window and click ok. This should bring up your desktop. 6. Use a malware removal tool to get rid of Privacy Center. Start I.E. (or other browser) and do a google search on "privacy center removal". I selected and went to the www.bleepingcomputer.com site and searched for "privacy center". They had a pretty complete set of instructions and information. There are many more sites with info as well. As the removal scan and processing takes a while, I cannot report on the effectiveness yet, but will do so as soon as possilble. John
